We use two different servers, one for personal or business websites
needing extensive end-user support, and a premium service for users
with especially demanding performance needs, such as serving pictures
for eBay auctions, who don't need very much hand-holding -- just fast
& dependable hosting service.
Our economy hosting service may be ordered here. This hosting has
24/7 email and
web-based support with extremely good turnaround (usually less than 30
minutes), but in order to hold
the costs down (and pay for that support contract), the bandwidth is
'averaged', or 'oversold' (sort of like 'overbooking' an airline
flight). This is the usual practice for this type of service, and
is not a bad
thing -- very few customers consistently use their
entire bandwidth allotment, and for some customers, a very high level
of end-user support is desirable.
Pro-Count, Inc. also supplies a premium performance service, which may
be ordered by email.
Premium service involves a very limited clientele, so we have not yet
gone to the effort to set up a website front-end for it.
Pro-Count, Inc. does not 'oversell' this service -- the number of
clients for this service is strictly limited in order to maintain
consistent high performance.
Up until recently, we have used this service
only for our 'captive'
clients (companies for whom we supply a complete turn-key website
package, including web design, registration, and hosting) -- but
recently, we had inquiries about using this service for eBay image
hosting, and we set up an account type for this use. It has
worked out very well, and because of the interest expressed in reliable
high-performance image hosting, we are expanding it. We initially
thought that 1 Gb transfer would be sufficient, but our experience has
shown that very active sellers were running close to the limit, so we
have increased the basic plan to 1.5 Gb. The basic
image
hosting plan should be plenty for most sellers (up to about 200
auctions per month), so it is not
likely that you would need more storage and bandwidth. If you do,
you can simply add as many increments of bandwidth and storage as you
need. If you are using more than that for eBay auctions, you
should ask us how you can compress your pictures to reduce bandwidth
and speed up downloading.
We also use this server for 'brochure' customers -- clients
who need minimal storage and transfer
(e.g., nonprofit service clubs, neighborhood associations, and other
groups that want just a small inexpensive site for use by their
members).
As mentioned, the premium service is not oversold. That means
that when the allotted premium service bandwidth is completely parceled
out to Pro-Count, Inc. clients, no more will be sold until we can bring
more server capacity online. It also means that if you need your
entire bandwidth allotment, it will be there. Every time.
Premium service (image and other
high-performance hosting) includes:
1) 10 Subdomains, and 5 'parked' domains
2) PHP and CGI support
3) MySQL database
4) End-user CPanelX
5) 50 email accounts
6) Several logging and reporting tools, including raw log access
7) End-user backup capability
8) FrontPage extensions (on request)
9) 5 FTP accounts
10) Fantastico & several ready-to-run PHP scripts
... and lots more!
Image hosting and brochure sites only have one FTP account and one
domain, and no additional subdomains. Image hosting does not
include email, subdomain, MySQL, PHP/Perl, or FrontPage. If you
don't want to dedicate a domain to image hosting, we can set up a
subdomain for you for a one-time $5 fee.
Extra-cost options such as SSL & static IPs are also available for
premium service.
Summary
The Economy service is for
those folks who can tolerate moderate
overselling (and a site that doesn't always load super-fast), and place
a high importance on end-user support. The Premium
Performance service
is for those folks who want consistent
high-speed service, and don't require extensive hand-holding.
In order to use either of these servers, you
will need your own domain
name (for image hosting, we can set up a subdomain for a one-time $5
fee if you don't want to dedicate a domain name to your image
hosting). We recommend Texas-Domains
for very
inexpensive domain registration (Pro-Count can provide name
registration, but not as inexpensively as Texas-Domains).
Texas-Domains also has hosting services, which you might want to
compare with Pro-Count, Inc. They have a number of other
services, but you may find that their "bells and whistles" add
considerable cost. Like the Pro-Count, Inc. Economy service,
Texas-Domains also 'oversells' hosting, which, again, is not a bad
thing, because it allows them to keep costs down; it just means that
their overall performance may not be consistent. Texas-Domains
features support by phone (long distance) or email with a 24 to 48-hour
turnaround.

subdomain provided by HostPCI for your image hosting ($5 one-time
setup). Hosting fees are by
